The Foo Fighters have not been in Romagna since 1997, it's time to get them back, but we needed a crazy idea. We had to organize something that kicks ass worldwide and can be seen by Dave Grohl: we will ask one thousand rockers to play one of their songs, all together and at the same time.
The idea started from Fabio, who contacted Claudia, Anita e Martina: in one week, the core of the team was set.
After the relatively peaceful holidays, we started planning and the crew that was necessary, expanded: we needed a press officer, engineers, technicians, fund raisers, graphics, webmasters and musicians. Basically a lot of people!
The crew became much bigger, everybody was doubtful but amused ... regardless, we have a team!
We started to work on launching the video for the project: an initial budget that equals zero, the goal of collecting €40,000 and 1,000 musicians, a miracle is needed!
We decided to create some expectations, deliberately using unclear messages, thus the fans became curious and ask: what is Rockin'1000?On December 18 they got the answer
The music world is in turmoil, the news of the Thousand reaches every corner of the world in a single day, NME, Rolling Stone, Virgin Radio, virtually all Italian and many foreign media began talking about us: from the United States to Brazil, from Argentina to Canada and all over Europe!
We're literally overwhelmed by fans, musicians, curious people and journalists.
Halfway through the Crowdfunding campaign, we organized a party fundraiser at the Teatro Verdi in Cesena: a huge success, a lot of people, and a lot of Rock!
During that night, we launched a cartoon spoken in our regional dialect that explains how to donate and be part of Rockin'1000 (no translations for that, sorry, but we assure you: it's very funny!)
After months of rumors, we announced the man that will conduct the Thousand.Pianist, conductor, arranger and composer, he's worked with artists like Pavarotti, Morricone, Kylie Minogue ... even with Take That!
When you're in Italy, raising €40,000 is a pain in the ass...and by April 30th, we still hadn't raised enough money. It's a crucial moment, but we cannot go back, so with an intense and dramatic call, we announce a one month extension for the crowdfunding deadline.
After one month of frantic activities of fund raising, the miracle is accomplished!
Thanks to the determination of the FR division led by Marta, we reached out to hundreds of companies around Europe, and we finally reached our goal.
Now it's certain: Rockin'1000 is coming true.
We got the money, so now we cannot back out, there are no more excuses. We started to work hard to set up the impossible: the budget is extremely tight and we cannot afford many expenses, we borrow anything that is available, we implore technicians to work for free or to be under paid.
Rockin'1000 is so complex from a technical point of view, that we cannot rely on newbies. We need experienced professionals, but the challenge is so cool that we are able to recruit real bigwigs
We thought that once we found the money, the musicians would have been a no-brainer: that was not the case at all.The skepticism, the objective difficulties, but also the levity of many candidates makes the task of recruiting a very difficult one.
Many people signed up ... but will we make it to 1000?!
The crucial week: the Rockin'1000 team, after working together for a year through endless email exchanges, messages and Skype calls, rejoins finally in one place, Cesena.
All took holidays: the tension is high, we still missed a lot of permits, electricity is not certain, many musicians enroll last minute, and others cancelled. The volunteers call one by one all the uncertain candidates, the video team arrives, and the audio team meets. How do we make all these people play? How do we shoot them with the cameras?! What will come out of it?!
The Rockin'1000 video is out and in a few hours it becomes a worldwide success with more than 10 million views. We're litterally overwhelmed by email, interviews, social media just go crazy!
In less than one day from the release, the Foo Fighters tweet this...
All newspapers in the world speak of Rockin'1000, from local Tvs to the CNN, the press office does not sleep for days. The mission seems accomplished, Dave Grohl has promised !!! The Rockin'1000 people just made it, with little money and a lot of passion.
The Mumford & Sons and the people of a remote village in the middle of the state of Washington, Walla Walla, invite us with a nice video to take part in the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Festival, we can not miss it! So Fabio, Anita and Martina, along with a group of Rockin'1000 friends, take the plane and fly overseas.
On August 14th, it happens what everyone expects, the meeting with Dave Grohl and the band.
What an undescribable emotion, chitchat, hugs and jokes ... the Foos are really fantastic!
