Nellize Gaia

Singer, songwriter and actress

“Freedom of spirit, freedom to song-write.”

There is no defining phrase for her, but if there was, it would be something like that.

She’s been a professional singer for more than 10 years. She plays piano and studies guitar.

Nellize stands out for executing all stages of composition: lyrics, melodies, arrangements, and the first stages of production, composing for all instruments.

Her music is a dancing modern pop, which interacts with rock, electronic and jazz.

Nellize is Brazilian but her music is all in English. She can also sing in English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.

She studied two years of opera singing, but dropped out to pursue a more pop style.

Gaia is also a professional actress and has acted in well succeeded plays, but her real dream was always music.

At the age of six she performed for the first time at school and realized she wanted to be a performer. But she had to face a lot of challenges before getting into music school.

Her family didn’t support her dream (which is very common in Brazil since few musicians make it through to financial independence).

She got a degree in design, then studied music and became a corporate event singer.

Sometime later, she realized something bigger was calling: she was about to become a song writer.

Since then, she has devoted herself exclusively to composing her own music, having already composed more than 10 songs and with others on the way.

As a strategy, she decided not to release any for the time being, waiting for the right moment, and above all, for the right producer.

For her, composing is like making a masterpiece: thorough, perfectionist and detail-oriented, all parts of the music are carefully studied.

After gathering a good amount of songs, she made contact with some producers, always being praised, but due to incompatibility of styles, she decided to go ahead on her own for a while, which made her develop her production side even more, but always maintaining awareness that she needs a professional producer to help her.

Her free spirit shines through when we listen to the many influences present in her songs, despite all of them having the same personality. A modern pop with a prominent bass and drums.

The lyrics' themes are also very important to her: The need to love oneself, to live in the present and to get rid of all kinds of prejudice (gender, age, color, image).

And they also speak of dreams. Because if there is someone who has never given up on fulfilling her childhood dream, that someone is her. Despite the difficulties, she never gave up and she kept moving forward.

Artistically, it affects her lyrics as well as her looks, as she always thinks about the influence any public person can have on other women's lives.

In an unconscious way, she has always been very feminist since she was a child, which was enhanced after living in Canada.

She focuses on comfort and dismisses the possibility of being portrayed as an object.
This will reflect on her visual as she imagines herself on stage with a modern and free style. Sometimes with a comfortable and playful style (something like Bishop Briggs and Lorde - in the first two albums), others in a more rock n’ roll style (something like Amy Interrupter).

As already mentioned, Nellize Gaia, by strategy, decided not to release any music so far, so now she can be released as a new product, starting from scratch.

Furthermore, Gaia intends to maintain a low profile style on her social media, similar to other artists who focus more on their music and content than on their image, such as Lorde, Adele, Ed Sheeran, among others.

Thinking about the presentation format, Gaia imagines herself on stage accompanied by a band in some songs and in others by a DJ and a pianist.

Due to the difference in language and styles, Brazil has always had difficulty exporting pop artists to the world. Who knows, this may change with Nellize Gaia.

After all, if we're to dream, let’s dream big.

International Influences: Muse, Bishop Briggs, Avicii, Lorde, The Interrupters, Shakira, Hans Zimmer, Moby, Melody Gardot, Sutton Foster, Norah Jones, Adele, Alanis, Madonna, Rolling Stones, Lana Del Rey, Cole Porter, The Strokes, The Killers, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Kaiser Chiefs, New Order, Joy Division, The Pretty Reckless, Elle King, Depeche Mode, Alan Walker, Billie Idol, Pink! , Calvin Harris, Scooter, Carrie Underwood, Faith no More, Dua Lipa, Florence and the Machine, Ed Sheeran, Eva Cassidy, Ramones, The Doors, The Clash, Chuck Berry.

Brazilian Influences: Cazuza, Gilberto Gil, Daniela Mercury, Marcus Viana, Alok, Elba Ramalho, Zé Ramalho, Alceu Valença, Charlie Brown Jr., Luiz Gonzaga, Tom Jobim, Tim Maia, Joao Paulo Mendonça, Barbara Ohana, Beth Carvalho, Milton Nascimento, Djavan, Natiruts, Gabriel o Pensador, Raimundos.

Classical Influences: Beethoven, George Bizet, Richard Wagner, Cecilia Bartolli.
